YOUR SPIRITUAL POWER SPOT

I'm glad that we have gathered here today, in this building where the church meets.
But let me remind you: the church is not a building.
It’s us — people gathered in the name of Jesus Christ.

The word translated as “church” in the Bible — the Greek word ἐκκλησία (ekklesia) — literally means an assembly, a community, a  group of people who come together.

So when Jesus says in Matthew 16:18:
“…I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.”
 (Matthew 16:18, NIV)
 — He is not talking about a building, but about people who will gather in His name and follow Him.

I’m so grateful to be part of this community, part of the body of Christ, part of the church that Jesus is building.

All over the world, millions of Christians gather together — especially on Sundays.
It’s wonderful to come together to worship and hear God’s Word.

But today, I want to ask you something
Where do you find strength when you're not at a Christian meeting?
Where is your own spiritual “power spot”?

Unfortunately, many people still believe that they must create the 'right' conditions in order to connect with God.

They believe that God will only hear their prayers if they are in the right place on the right day or ask the right person.

Some believe that they must be in a 'holy' building, such as a church. Or that it has to be Sunday. Or that they need to ask a special person, such as a priest or pastor, in order for God to pay attention to their request.

But the Bible teaches us something different.

1 Corinthians 6:19 (NIV):
“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit,
who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own.”

The Bible says that God lives inside of us! Isn’t that amazing?

When we think or talk about God, we often instinctively look up.
God is out there somewhere — in heaven, in space or far away — outside of us.

However, we rarely relate to God with the understanding that he is inside us.

Yet Jesus repeatedly spoke about God’s desire for a personal and continuous relationship with each of us.

For example, in Revelation 3:20, Jesus says:
“Here I am! I stand at the door and knock.
If anyone hears my voice and opens the door,
I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.”

And in John 14:23, He says:
“Anyone who loves me will obey my teaching.
My Father will love them, and we will come to them and make our home with them.”

The images of 'eating together' and 'making our home' are metaphors for the deep personal fellowship and inner communion that exists between God and the believer.

God doesn’t just want to be nearby. He wants to live inside your life, to be involved in it, to speak to you, and guide you.

We must learn this truth.

Because if our faith in God and our relationship with Him only happen during Sunday church services , and if going to church, receiving a message and worshipping together is all we experience, then we’re missing out!

I believe that what matters even more is having a daily fellowship with God.

By this, I mean that our spiritual power spot should be in our hearts — a place where we can connect with God without the need for a building or a pastor or priest.

I don’t believe in places that are considered “holy” just because of their geographical location. I don’t believe in specially designated power spots.

I believe that the true temple, the place of power and worship, is in our hearts.
That is where God receives our worship.

Never associate your relationship with God with any one physical place. The enemy would love us to be confused by such thinking. Because we can't always be in the church building.

Perhaps you have to stay at home on Sundays. Maybe you’re travelling while the service is taking place. Don't let that stop you. You can speak to God wherever you are, on any day of the week and at any time.

The power spot, the temple, the place of worship — it's your heart.
Our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit.

So wherever you are, that is a place where God hears you. It doesn’t matter what country you’re in — it makes no difference. It doesn’t matter what day it is or what time — God is always ready to connect with you.

So, whether you’re on a train, a plane or a ship; at home; on the street; or in the field, in a village, in the mountains or in the desert — wherever you are — the Holy Spirit is with you! Your heart is a holy place.

It makes no difference. Wherever you go, the Holy Spirit goes with you. His presence is with you wherever you go.

David knew this, too. In Psalm 139, he writes:

Psalm 139:7–10 (NIV):
7 Where can I go from your Spirit?
Where can I flee from your presence?
 8 If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
9 If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
10 even there your hand will guide me,
your right hand will hold me fast.

Wherever you go, God is already there.

You can’t escape His love. He is always with you, wherever you are.

This is wonderful, because it means we can be confident that God will hear us and help us in any situation.

Amen
