YOUR LIFE BRINGS LIVES
26 She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue.
27 She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. (Proverbs 31: 26-27)
I’m always amazed by the way our Creator made us—especially women. Some like to joke that He made the draft first, then the masterpiece. Jokes aside, one of the greatest and most impressive aspects of the Lord’s creation is how He made us life-givers.
Your life generates life.
Yes! I’m referring to the process of a life that begins inside of us women, growing while being nourished by our own bodies until it's ready to come out and breathe on its own. Isn’t that incredible?
That’s why, when I thought about this special date, one phrase immediately came to mind: YOUR LIFE BRINGS LIFE!
But when I reflect on it more deeply, the concept goes far beyond that. Even women who have never carried a life within themselves—or never will—have the gift of bringing life.
How? Through their words and actions.
We see in the Bible countless examples of women who “brought life” in this way.
1. Hannah (Mother of Samuel) – 1 Samuel 1–2
Words and example:
Hannah prayed fervently for a son, and when God granted her request, she dedicated him to the Lord. She taught Samuel from an early age to listen to and obey God. Her song in 1 Samuel 2 is a testimony of faith and praise.
“For this child I prayed, and the Lord has granted me my petition.” – 1 Samuel 1:27
2. Mary (Mother of Jesus) – Luke 1–2; John 2
Words and example:
Mary built Jesus up with words of submission to God's will and even influenced the start of His public ministry (at the wedding in Cana).
“Do whatever He tells you.” – John 2:5
(Words of faith and trust that reveal her spiritual insight.)
3. Lois and Eunice (Grandmother and Mother of Timothy) – 2 Timothy 1:5
Words and example:
Although their direct words are not recorded, Paul praises the sincere faith of these women who spiritually shaped Timothy.
“I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice…” – 2 Timothy 1:5
4. The Mother of Zebedee’s Sons (James and John) – Matthew 20:20–23
Words and example:
She approached Jesus interceding for her sons. Though her request was bold, it showed her spiritual concern and desire for them to be close to the Lord.
5. The Shunammite Woman – 2 Kings 4
Words and example:
She demonstrated great faith even in the face of her son’s death. Her words to the prophet Elisha were firm and confident. She created an atmosphere of faith and hope.
“It is well.” – 2 Kings 4:26
(Even in pain, her words expressed trust in God.)
In psychology, there are countless studies about the influence of a mother’s words and actions on her children—and how this can greatly impact the kind of person they will become (though of course, it's not the only factor).
Our words, in particular, have a powerful effect on our children’s lives.
Some even compare the shape of the ear to a fetus, suggesting that just as a fetus is nourished and grows inside the mother, the words children hear—especially from their mothers—can feed and nurture them emotionally and mentally.
